I've worked with Douglas Landscape Construction in three capacities at this point: 1) During the construction of our new home, as a subcontractor via the general contractor for the project. 2) As a landscape maintenance provider, directly to us, after we took possession of the home in (1). 3) Again as a subcontractor, this time directly to us, for phase two landscape construction following (1).
On the construction front for (1) and (3), Douglas suffers the same challenge besetting all Northern California subcontractors right now: not enough people and talent to meet the demand for the work. As a outcome, the results are slow. However, despite that, quality is high. They work thoughtfully and diligently and get the job done-to expectations.
If there is something that isn't quite right the first time, they don't argue about it. They take accountability, correct it, and get it done. In particular, I've enjoyed working with Jesus Barajas, the field supervisor assigned to our account. He's friendly, responsive, professional, and a good communicator. Within the bounds of expectation-setting on time-to-complete, I'd recommend Douglas for a small or large landscape construction project.
On the maintenance front for (2), Douglas again suffers the same challenge besetting all Northern California subcontractors right now: not enough people and talent to meet the demand for the work. However, they provide a tremendous value relative to many of their competitors, some of whom have monthly minimums before even considering maintenance work. Overall, they are a diligent maintenance provider.
My only complaint is that they are not as proactive as I might want or expect in terms of addressing things before I notice them (weeds that need pulling or plants that are dying from under/over-watering). But, when I do notice and escalate the issues, they take care of them promptly and without complaint.
