We've been getting our Christmas trees from Betty's for the last 30 years. This year was by far the worst. Very limited selection, only the high priced Noble firs, which were very overpriced. Went down the road to Lowe's and bought a beautiful 7 foot Fraser fir for less than what we paid at Betty's last year. Won't be going back to Betty's.

I have used a number of landscape/hardscape contractors over many years. I have mainly relied on Merrifield Garden Center for larger projects recently finding quality of work very good but MGC is not so good with communication and consistency in pricing in my opinion and experience. In winter of 2016-2017 I worked with Renata Duarte at Betty's Asaelia Ranch for design and building a retaining wall, patio and drainage at a property I manage in McLean.
My clients, property owners, live in Houston, are retired and wanted to be active in the project flying up a couple of times during planning and execution. Agreeing on design, terms and scheduling start date in mid January, upon signing contract and paying sizable down payment Renata announced that she was leaving on a one month vacation to Brazil before work start date and that she would supervise her team from Brazil by email and phone.
You can imagine how that went. There aren't enough characters here to describe it. On February 20, 2017 Renata returned. Along with bad weather interrupting progress the project was finished on March 3, 2017. End result was very good and price reasonable compared to MGC bid and sensationally reasonable compared to Wheat's bid. BAR crew was skilled, focused and well choreographed.
In my opinion Renata Duarte was deceitful not disclosing she was going on month long vacation during design and negotiation period. Communication was burdensome since crew and I did not share a common language to communicate in and our interpreter, BAR landscape designer and sales representative, Renata, during 4 rain filled weeks here, was vacationing in Brazil. Experiences like this are common when contracting for what is known as "home improvement" work in Northern Virginia.
The old Tom Hanks, Shelly Long movie "The Money Pit" plays in my mind when I find myself entangled in scenarios like this BAR one. The contractor gags in the movie are real life for me.

Highly recommend Betty's Azalea Ranch. This is the second property where we have had them plan and install landscaping. Kevin again came up with a great plan and talked with us about our vision for the property and showed us different options and plant choices. Juan and his team did a great job on defining and prepping the beds and installing the plants. In addition, Juan did a meticulous job constructing the stack stone wall We would definitely use them again

Nice selection. But it is hit or miss with regards to help. Some days you get someone who wants to help you. Other times you end up with someone who treats you like you ran over their puppy. Prices are weird and there's no arguing. Paid $29.95 for the azalea I picked up behind this sign. Certainly won't be back for the three hundred dollar beech tree I want. Someone else surely has it. Heck home depot had a slightly smaller variety for under $100.
