Critical: Professionalism Whomever was driving this vehicle down 100 on Tuesday 6/14 at 5pm was a terribly aggressive driver and rude as I passed him further down the road. You end your voicemail was 'stay safe!' I'd say your drivers should adhere to the advice. Would not use your services based on this experience.

Definitely do not recommend McHale. I contacted them in February for modifications for privacy to our Azek deck and gazebo. Here it is June 1 and they are proposing a design contract of $1250 with final plans sometime in the fall and presumably construction in the winter IF lucky. Who knows when construction would occur. My goal was to salvage THIS summer's usage and they never had the courtesy to let me know this project wasn't going to happen.
Over 3 months since contacting them, they are proposing 3 months or until September 1 for preliminary design and 2 months or November 1 for final design. Unreal! Sounds like construction in the December/January range IF lucky. I felt that my project was barely on the radar with McHale and they aren't inexpensive. I would have greatly appreciated some upfront direct conversation so I did not waste months of precious time.
I even provided the concepts that I found scouring the internet and asked them to build the concepts. No new concepts have been discovered that meet the needs. Absolutely nothing concrete has been done and it is June 1. This has been a ridiculous and frustrating waste of time. I will take my business elsewhere. This has not been a good experience.

This firm is outstanding. From design to build, the ability to listen and translate your vision into something beyond what you could ever imagine. The designers are top notch, on top of all the newest materials and approaches to both landscape and building --- in our case, a large, three-season porch. The team on our porch took their time to ensure quality work and involved us along the way to make sure we were aligned and they were delivering what we wanted. Just a great experience and we have a beautiful porch that wows everyone who visits us. Highly recommend if you want high quality and something that will be noted by all!

I wanted to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for McHale's landscaping workmanship and its customer service. Prior to retaining McHale we sought proposals and estimates from three other local landscape companies - ultimately we chose McHale and are very happy with that decision. We recently had our front yard landscaped and worked with Mike Convery in the McLean office. Mike has been fabulous to work with - he is accommodating, understanding, patient, responsive and was always willing to work with us.
For example, my husband and I were a little concerned about the coloring of the stone on the retaining wall McHale built, we wondered if we needed to pull in darker stone to match the house columns - it just didn't seem to match as closely as it could. Mike came out and assessed the wall, agreed and we ordered new stone. He worked to bring back out Javier to redo portions of the wall more to our liking. Mike never pushed back, never suggested that we were being difficult - he worked with us to make sure things were done to our satisfaction, which we genuinely appreciated.
There are plenty of other companies that I suspect would have been unwilling to redo portions of the wall, or would have demanded more by way of costs. Additionally, we had some issues with plants not taking and looking wilted and dying. Again, without issue Mike was willing to address the situation, including coming out himself to prune some of the annuals that died a little early.
Not only was Mike great to work with but the entire McHale team was great - professional, courteous and generally just nice individuals. We were impressed with how much effort was made to protect areas being built from rain water - it illustrated a high level of care and customer service. Materials were stored out of sight as much as they could be and the work areas were kept clean - very much appreciated.
And Javier did a great job on redoing the retaining wall - we think it looks so much better and we appreciate how closely he listened to Mike's instructions and was thoughtful about the placement of the stone to achieve our desired result. Honestly, the level of customer service that Mike and the McHale team displayed is rare - it's the type of customer service I strive to provide to my clients and it is immensely appreciated when others display the same level of commitment to their clients - so a huge thank you to McHale.
We are truly thrilled with the end product, with the company's customer service and the professionalism displayed by all employees. We will certainly recommend McHale, without a doubt. And we look forward to working with McHale in the future.

If you're okay writing a blank check and having McHale tell you what you want instead of having them listen to what you want, then McHale is the company for you. These folks are unresponsive and when they do respond they completely ignore requests and then seem perplexed as to why you're not interested in doing business with them. It doesn't even occur to them to apologize for not responding and then presenting a proposal 50% over budget, with contract terms which explicitly were made clear would not be acceptable up front and with a scope of work the includes a variety of items that we had no interest in.
The head of their VA office comes across as if he's doing you a favor in considering to work for you. Can't even imagine how difficult it would be to get them to complete the job once they actually have your money. Only positive thing I can say is that their designer Julie was very friendly and pleasant and I think would have been easy to work with.
