Southview Design & Construction

Our homeowner's association in Rosemount, Glendalough sun-division, has used SV for the past two years and it has been horrible. Zero communication, lack of ownership with anything, killed all our open space grasses due to not getting irrigation working not one but two years in a row. Thy are also horribly overpriced on top of the horrible service. Our neighborhood has never looked worse!

I have a very steep hill in my back yard that has begun eroding. I have had several companies come out to look at it and suggest plans for managing it. Taylor Wald at Southview Design really listened to me, carefully examined the area and came up with a plan that is beautiful, workable and reasonably priced. I totally trust that his plan will do exactly what is needed to minimize the erosion while being easy to care for and pretty to look at. I highly recommend Taylor Wald and Southview Design.

They just blew an entire parking lot of leaves through a gate and into someone's yard/alley behind the Starbucks at Snelling and Grand. Update: the crew left without removing the leaves of premise. The alley is still full of leaves piled against the neighbor's garages two weeks later.

We recently had Southview Design redo our front yard landscaping. We were impressed with Roberts (designer) ability to create a design integrating plants we wanted to keep into the new design. The specific plant care guide for our landscaping was much appreciated so we know how to manage and care for our new landscaping. Victor and his crew were great to work with -always took time to answer questions -kept work site clean. We would definitely use Southview again.

I chose Southview to have one company own a large landscaping project from design to completion across many subcontractors. Southview didn't disappoint. They were thorough, professional, and my project was beautiful when completed.

We have an existing paver patio that needed new added on. Original was discontinued so some clever blending was needed! Turned.out really nice.

We moved into our new home 4 years ago. In the spring when the snow melted and after every little (or big) rainfall our sump pump ran almost continuously. We had so much water soaking in the ground of our backyard that the posts holding up our deck and porch actually shifted in the winter when the ground froze. We talked with several companies and had one company make changes to redirect water, but they actually made the problem worse.

Last year we contacted Southview Design to ask for their opinion on what we should do. We could tell on the first visit that they actually understood the problem and what would be needed. They did such a good job of explaining the root cause of our problem, we hired them on the spot! When work was initiated they completely removed the prior companies work, regraded the area, added drainage tiles and solid pipes to move the water quickly away from the house, and replaced the plants and shrubs in a design that we love.

Last winter was the first time in four years when our house wasn't cracking and making noises caused by the frost heaving the support posts. So far this spring, our sump pump has been silent. Their understanding of the problem was immediate, and totally correct. The solution they implemented has changed our attitude from concern that we had made the wrong decision to buy this home, to one of pride and enjoyment. We would highly recommend the friendly and professional team from Southview Design as they "saved the day" for us!

We had an area of our yard that was overgrown with weeds, and an are covered with pea rock from a previous owner. We explained to our design consultant that we wanted a low maintenance up date to our yard that included a nice color variety of plants. Taylor proved he listened closely to our desires for the yard as his proposal and drawing matched exactly with what we wanted.

The crew implemented the plan efficiently and accurately in 2 days time. We are very pleased with the overall experience with Southview design, and appreciated the great communication throughout the process.

We hired Southview to help with landscaping at our new home on a smaller city lot. They installed 3 patios and prepped our garden beds. From start to finish we were impressed with the experience. This company is extremely organized and service is top notch. Meg and Sergio were great to work with and Mike (our on site lead) and his crew were outstanding and extremely friendly! Whenever we had a question or concern they addressed it immediately and without hesitation. I would gladly hire Southview again.

This is the second time in three years that we have used Southview Design, and, like the first time, the work was outstanding, the construction team was outstanding, the professionalism was outstanding, and the overall project went according to plan. Another five star job well done!

Southview Design recently installed a rain garden at our home in Edina to help with water run-off and the process was flawless from start to finish. We commend Taylor and his crew for their hard work and meeting all of our expectations. The overall design, placement, planting and rock arrangement were well thought-out. The crew was polite, hardworking and when done, made sure that the area was cleaned-up when they left.

We have worked with other landscaping outfits in the past but none have displayed the quality and expertise of Southview Design. One star is too many. In my 40 years of home ownership I have worked with several landscape companies and have been satisfied with all results. I have never given a negative review ever for any service or product. With a mutually agreeable plan to redo several home gardens, last spring Southview designed and planted a front yard decorative garden.

Within a month several of the plants were dead. My request for replacements was met with a final decree that I must have the soil analyzed at my personal expense to see if it could support a garden. Because replacements weren't to be done for the summer, I replaced them myself. By the end of the summer all Southview plantings in this garden were dead.

The ones I had put in were healthy. I was told that no replacements would be done until spring. This spring the Southview plantings were still dead, and the ones I had replaced were thriving. I asked for compensation for all plants that had died after the planting last spring. The answer is that there is no reimbursement for the ones I put in myself in spite of their refusal to replace them last summer. No one from Southview has ever been to look at this garden since it was planted and started dying. Addendum -- My profile identifies my residency as SF. I live in Mpls.

Southview installed new patio, water feature, and prepped site for new shed. They were great to deal with from design to install. The crew was friendly, courteous, kept job site clean, all around great. We intend to update our front yard in a few years and will use again.

Do yourself a favor and do not use Southview Design and Landscape, they are a horrendous rip-off. My saga started when I bid on a front garden design for my house at a silent auction for the Animal Humane Society. Boy, was that a mistake. The $20,000. landscaping job quickly morphed to a $25,000. job and the garden still looked sparse. I complained to the President, Clifton, who came to my house and said "yeah.but it will grow in." He was wrong.

Within three years the 6 rocket junipers, at $800. each died. I kept telling them they were dying and they kept saying no until the warranty ran out. They did replace them with North Pole arborvitae after I strenuously complained and told them their salesman Matt told me that they would be covered for three years if I sign on to their "fine garden maintenance service, " which I did.

That was even worse. The seasonal service went from about $2,100 a year to $3,000. per year. They were supposed to hand week the garden, but in fact, they sprayed chemicals on it, so much so, that they killed the grass where ever the gardener walked. They would come without notice and spend 15 minutes in my garden and leave, often just sitting in their truck.

The two mugo pines they planted in my garden are now dying and will have to be removed. I purchased another tree from them that died within 2 years and when I asked them to remove it they refused unless I was billed. They also billed me $200. to wrap the arborvitae and failed to inform me of the cost of that service. When the burlap fence fell down two weeks later, they did not respond to my request to come fix it.

I have since hired a real master gardener to help me with my landscape and we are now moving almost everything they installed as they were not thriving because they were placed in the wrong areas.too shady.too sunny etc. Southview was an expensive disaster for me. Do yourself a favor, do not use Southview Design and Landscape unless you want to pay through the nose and get poor results.

Southview Design did a small front yard project for us. We were blown away by their workmanship, and quality of service. The crew was hardworking, and attentive. Southview Design is definitely one of the best contractors in the twin cities! The experience was pleasant, from start to finish. We have received many compliments from out neighbors. I look forward to using their services for our next landscape project!

Buyer Beware are the first words of advise I have for you. We hired Southview Design to redo our backyard into a place for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying back in 2004. We hired this company because we felt that they were an experienced firm that knew outdoor landscaping. Though the bid was very expensive, we decided that they would do an all inclusive job.

We assumed that the landscape would be permanent based on the price we payed. Five years later, one of our chilton stone retaining walls fell down. We hired a contractor to fix the wall. This person is an employee of Southview Design and was involved with our original work. This April, the wall collapsed again. This time, we called Southview Design directly thinking that they would stand behind their work. Instead, the salesman told us that they would give us a deep discounted rate to repair the wall.

After 3 weeks of no response one way or the other, we moved ahead and repaired the wall. Upon receiving notification of my review, the company contacted me immediately this morning and came to meet with us this afternoon. They wanted to take a look at the wall and come up with a solution. Southview is standing behind their work and are moving ahead. This in my mind is who you want to hire- a company with compassion for the consumer and whose goal is to put out good work. Southview wants to be proud of their projects.
