You'll often hear us talk about solving problems. Drainage issues, grading issues, site design issues, and plant selection issues are all examples of problems we work to solve. As the sole owner, designer, estimator and primary job site coordinator and contact person, Tom Richtsmeier can help you to bring your ideas, designs, and concepts from a planning stage right through to installation.
Edging works to both hold the space your planting bed creates and add to the design on a large or small scale. We complete the look of your new space using materials ranging from natural boulders to metal strips. As with decorative rock, the color and shape of mulch create an overall mood that completes the look of the landscaping. We source wood of different colors for a variety of options.

Tom and his crew did a great job on our front and back landscaping. The clean up and work area were well managed and the final design was a perfect fit for our home. Tom landscaped for us at our last home as well, so we were confident that we would be pleased with the project. Tom was great to work with and he answered all of our questions before and after the project was completed. We would definitely recommend him as a designer/ landscaper.

I would strongly discourage not using this company to do your landscaping. He did mine over a year ago and had said that all of the bushes that were put in place have a one-year warranty. He came to look it this past spring as we have four dead bushes said that he would replace them as soon as the ground unthaws. I have left him numerous text messages and voicemail messages to find out when he's going to take care of this and he has been completely nonresponsive since the beginning of June and it is now the end of August.
Also in the process of putting the landscaping in he covered up three sprinkler heads but he also said he was going to fix and has not done soThis is very poor customer service

I worked 13 or 14 seasons plowing snow for Richtsmeier Landscaping. We had and continue to have a great relationship. I always looked forward to working with Tom and the guys. My full time job and other life obligations finally brought my snowplowing career to an end but I still miss it. As to the haters on here, Tom was always professional; firm but fair.
As with so many other things in life, you get out of it, what you put into it. Tom took care of us and we were always paid on time and he made it a point to give a bonus for those who worked every snowfall. I work full time at a local airport and this winter our plow truck blew an engine. Being without a plow was not an option and after a quick call to Tom, he rented us one of his trucks for a very reasonable rate. Saved our bacon!
He went out of his way to help me out in a bind and provided me a steady winter income for many years. I consider him a friend and would not hesitate to recommend him for your landscaping needs or as an employer.

I worked for this guy back in 2005 and I felt it was me for the longest time. I come on here and see so many other employees were absolutely belittled and verbally abused by this guy could not be more accurate. He hires you to do light amount of landscaping while him and his foreman take care of the rest only to start screaming out, and treating you like you are the most worthless person if you don't understand landscaping language he is speaking. Find somewhere else to work you will thank me later.

I just had a retaining wall put in, drain tile along edge of property, a bunch of ashthorn brush removed and two trees put in. Tom and his team did a great job. Very detail oriented and does provide some advice if requested. He took precautions not to damage my grass by putting down planks where he used his miniature bobcat thing. I would highly recommend his work.
I will post pictures once the job is complete and the grass greens up a little. Pertaining to some posters that post what a terrible employer he is.i have this to offer: This is his BUSINESS. He cares that the job is done correctly. He had two helpers that were just learning. What i saw was a guy that cared that 1.) they were doing the job correctly, and 2.) that they were taking breaks as needed (they were working hard).
Its landscaping people. The guy is going to yell at you are *&%ing off. The crew he had were trying hard and did great work, and i saw Tom correct them when they were doing things wrong. YOU WANT THIS. This is a trade that you can learn and you don't end up having to hire it out like i have to do. If you don't want to get yelled at, go work at the flower store for minimum wage.

Tom recently completed work for me and it looks wonderful. Tom gave me some really thoughtful advice and went out of his way to get supplies after I changed my mind about part of the project. This is the second landscaping job Tom has done on my yard, and I couldn't be happier. Tom was great to work with. The results are spectacular!

Working for Richtsmeier Landscaping isn't a walk in the park by any means. The days are hot, long and physically challenging. But nearly 10 years later, I look at my experience working on his crew as a pivotal moment for me. During the summer between my sophomore and junior year in high school, Tom approached me and said, "Your dad says you're looking for work?" "I am?" At the time I played football and enjoyed video games - changing to a physically demanding job was not easy. Regardless, I ended up working for Tom for 4 summers.
The pay was very fair and the work kept me in great shape for football. Tom continued to give me additional responsibility and more autonomy over the years. A few days ago, I was sharing with a group of youth that working for Tom taught me how to work hard and find value in my work. It has paid dividends throughout my entire life. An example of this was my recent acceptance to Harvard Business School.
It's an accomplishment that comes at the end of many years of hard work - and the job that first taught the value of hard work was with Tom at Richtsmeier Landscaping. I highly recommend his work and working on his team. In the four years that I worked for him, he never cut corners to save cost or time.

I worked for this man for a short period last year. The first review couldn't be more accurate. He does mediocre work for the very reason that his crew is all very inexperienced because he can't keep anyone on without quitting. Tom's teaching philosophy as stated when I started was " I need self motivated teach yourself individuals who can work on their own" This would be fine if he wasn't anal person with severe anger issues that pounces on every opportunity to scream at your mistakes.
I was number 11 to quit during one season with him. On numerous occasions Tom would fly into fits of rage when one of us failed to complete a task we more likely than not had never done before. The one and only reason this man is still in business is because of his only long standing employee Jose. Jose is one of the hardest workers I have ever met and has extensive knowledge of almost every Landscaping technique.
If anyone reading this is another Landscaper or contractor I would suggest trying to catch Jose biking home from work and offering him a job. He single handedly keeps the quality of that business at an acceptable level, and keeps Tom in business. There are many other Landscapers in the area if you are looking for a project to be done, or if you like me are looking for a job. All I can say is please look elsewhere.
