In 1948, Bill and Grace Van Putte opened Van Putte Seed Company and established the first garden store in the Town of Greece. They offered seeds and garden supplies to area homeowners, as well as seed catalogs to farmers and local hardware stores. As the population increased and new homes were built, the demand for seed, fertilizer, and nursery stock increased.
We offer delivery on a wide variety of bulk materials to meet your landscaping needs, such as mulch, stone, soil and compost. Delivery price varies by distance, view our delivery price map to determine your cost. Deliveries can be arranged Monday through Saturday during the peak season and are based on a first-come, first-served basis.

Van Putte have every vegetable or herb you can think of for your garden. They also sell plants, trees, shrubs, etc. I have never purchased any of their trees but I have heard good things about them. This business is a little higher priced than another local nursery we frequent, but they literally have any plant you can want or need. I have had to stop here every year for the plants I couldn't find at other places.
They also have a huge display outside of their fountains, statues and other landscaping needs. It's a one stop get it all type place. The employees are super friendly and helpful. They are still adhering to covid protocols.

I'm hesitant about posting before and after pictures simply because of how much of an absolute mess our front yard was but after telling my dental hygienist about my amazing results (if that doesn't sum up my excitement and satisfaction that I'm going around and literally telling everyone) she insisted I display it because it looks like a completely different home.
Now back to my review on how much we love the job that was completed. Tony came out last fall and drew up an entire landscape design. Everything was perfect. We decided it would be wise to put down a down payment early this year to be scheduled for early spring. It took two days to remove stones, a forest of weeds, a dying cherry tree, edge the garden, place boarder down which was a pleasant surprise because I didn't know they'd install a brand new one, topsoil, grade it perfectly from the house, plant an impressive amount of shrubs and bushes and mulch.
Two days. Tony was here daily checking in with us and his crew. They all worked as a team and they were all kind and extremely hardworking. No waste, mess or anything left out of place. We couldn't be happier with the entire experience.

We bought a two trees today. They have a good selection of trees, along with a couple unique types of tree I haven't seen anywhere else. We purchased here today because they had the best selection of more mature trees. Mary Lynn helped us. She seemed very knowledgeable about trees and was able to answer all our questions. Veterans discount 10.

My fiance and I did not know this little store existed until we were driving by one day. When we were ready to start doing our summer gardens, this was our first stop. We got many vegetable plants and a ton of beautiful flowers. My favorites were the hanging plants we purchased. Everything took to the ground and sprouted like crazy. Especially our tomatoes. We even used them to order soil and compost mix. Great family owner business. Staff were helpful and friendly! I loved that there delivery rate wasn't outrageous.

I called Van Putte because I had a small flower bed installation that I wanted done, it was a bit more complicated because it butted up against a deck that required some grading work. I met with Kristen the project lead, who was friendly and seemed to understand fully what I wanted after a brief 10 minute conversation at the site, a few days later I had plans emailed to me with a path forward.
When installation began, I had some questions for her and the men who were doing the install. they listened to my questions, came up with a solution and the executed result was outstanding. I have to admit, they far exceeding my expectations. I had no idea just how amazing of a job they would do until I saw the finished product. Randy and Peter who where on site doing the physical install are two brilliant and hard working men, they added much value to the discussion which helped me decide on how to proceed - true professionals in this arena. I highly recommend Van Putte! PS. as small of a job that this was, the team couldn't have been more professional!

They are the most knowledgeable garden center in town, with the best service in town. Not the biggest in town, Garden Factory and Grossman's have bigger selection on hand, but their customer service and health of their plants make up for it easily. Their customer service, product knowledge, and willingness to research and order what they don't have in stock are second to none.

I called them in September of last year to see if they would be able to mow my lawn and keep the bushes in front of my house neat and trimmed. I was told to call back at the beginning of this year to set up an appointment. Well, I was FINALLY able to meet with someone this past Monday, March 5th. Kristin came to the house, I told her what I was looking to have done, she scribbled in her little note book and said I'd hear back from them.
This morning, I did. She said they don't do that sort of thing and gave me a list of people/companies that do. So, after getting the run-around for MONTHS, I'm told that they won't take care of my lawn. Awful customer service, lied to me about what services they provide and left me in the lurch. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

Some background: my fiance and I have just purchased our first home in Gates and we have built a space for a garden in our backyard. We love to cook and eat fresh vegetables and hate paying into the Wegmans' College Trust Fund. I admit, my first thought was to go to The Garden Factory because they are less than one mile away from our home but thankfully, they had no remaining inventory.
I searched for my second best bet and came across Van Putte Gardens, also nearby, which had one glowing review. I am so glad that I did! I am as much an amateur as anyone when it comes to gardening, and I will not hesitate to rave about the level of service I received. The associate that helped me chatted with me and gave me gardening tips for over 30 minutes.
She even helped me select each plant and provided me recommendations based on her preferences and what we enjoy cooking. The prices were outstanding, even without consideration of the late-season discount, and I walked away feeling confident that at the very least, something will appear to grow in our new garden :- The fact that she encouraged me to return with any questions I had and to give her a review on the vegetables that we liked best so that she could help adjust her future recommendations to our preferences, was very well received and appreciated. I will absolutely not hesitate to return again in the future and next time, Van Putte will absolutely be my first and only destination. Thanks!

Highly recommend this business. Their sales people both at the counter and in the design landscape division were superb. The landscapers were the hardest workers I have seen in a while. Nice and courteous when I went and said good morning. Trusted their judgement and suggestions and I am so glad I did. Will be giving them all the referrals we can.

This place is 5 stars because the people were really smart but not pushy, and the plants were really healthy. I went there to get some vegetable plants and herbs to make container gardens on my balcony. They had a good selection of all kinds of vegetables (and some organics) and had them in single pots as well as 6 and 12-packs which was good because I didn't need 6 of one kind.
The man I talked to was friendly and gave me some good tips on growing vegetables in containers (what size containers to use, what kind of soil is best, how much to water, etc.). I ended up getting a tomato plant, a pepper plant, a 6-pack of lettuce, and since they had so many cool & unusual herbs, got a pineapple basil too. Also picked up some seed packets of carrots and radishes and some seed potatoes (one bag was more than I needed but that's ok).
I didn't buy anything else but they have a huge outdoor perennial area and a couple greenhouses for flowers and vegetables. The flowers were all really colorful and healthy-looking but since I have nowhere to put them, didn't end up buying any. They also had what seems to be several acres of trees, bushes off to the side and behind the main areas. It's in kind of a strange location (middle of a residential neighborhood in Greece), but I would definitely make a trip for any plants or gardening supplies I need in the future. Recommended.
