My wife and I interviewed several contractors for our retaining wall project, and I knew within 5 minutes of meeting Robert, JCL was going to be our top choice. We had a vague idea of what we thought our project would look like; Robert took our basic ideas and created an amazing retaining wall with a built-in fence around our pool. We also discussed doing some additional retaining walls around our driveway, a project for a later date.
A few weeks later when our project started, Robert introduced us to Mauricio who did a bulk of the job. Mauricio is truly an artist and has been doing masonry work for close to 20 years. He worked incredibly hard building our wall, and was very easy to work with as we discussed minor tweaks in the design as work progressed. I feel he treated our home like it was his own, diligent to clean the work area and keep our gates secure (we have a horse farm).
We received numerous complements from friends and neighbors as the work progressed. Once the wall around the pool was complete, we knew we could not let Mauricio leave without doing the additional walls around our driveway. Robert was gracious enough to adjust their schedule to allow Mauricio to install the additional walls around our driveway. Again, Robert and Mauricio helped us tweak the layout to exceed our expectations.
Our house sits at the entrance of our subdivision and I've been stopped on several occasions by others in our neighborhood to tell us how good the walls look. It is hard to find quality contractors these days. JCL Landscape Services goes above and beyond to make sure they exceed their customer's expectations. During our project, Robert made frequent site visits, very responsive and easy to communicate with. Thanks Robert, Mauricio, and JCL Landscape Services for making our house look AMAZING!

JCL did an outstanding job on a retaining wall project in our backyard. They were able to expand off of a stone wall we had installed 8 years ago, and were able to match the existing wall perfectly, its hard to tell were the first wall ends and the new wall starts. The price was fair, the communication was solid, the install finished a day ahead of schedule, and the workmanship met all of our expectations. I highly recommend JCL for any retaining wall, stone/concrete work.

JCL did an amazing job rebuilding our retaining wall. Robert was responsive and up front throughout the entire process. The team couldn't have been more courteous and the work done is outstanding. Our family is using the backyard for the first time since moving in to the house. We have had numerous compliments from neighbors and I highly recommend Robert and JCL for any work you may need.

We highly recommend JCL. All their workers impressed us with their work ethic. The main guy who did the wall, Cesar, is (in our opinion) an artist. They cleaned out all the old brush first, then built a beautiful wall. Even put drains in it. Look at the before & after pics. This is a Veteran owned company.

JCL Landscaping helped us remove our pool. We worked with Robert Avalos, Gabriel, and Amato. All of them were very helpful and professional throughout the entire process. Some additional work that wasn't in the original plan they were happy to help us out with as well. We are very happy with the final result. If you need some work done and want great communication, professionalism, and high quality, I highly recommend contacting JCL Landscaping.

JCL was a perfectly acceptable company for our retaining wall job. They didn't disappoint. They didn't exceed expectations. They accomplished the job pretty well as expected. We had a large retaining wall project, front yard and back yard. The back yard was fairly tall, encompassing a garden, and incorporating stairs. They were using milsap stone.
This was during the "great contractor shortage" of 2021 and they warned us that it'd be 10-12 weeks delay, and it was. They were completely noncommunicative during that time, even nonresponsive, but when it came out turn they reached out, scheduled, and got the large project done in 5 days. They did a pretty good job with demolition and construction.
In part of the job they were working around vegetation, which they did a pretty good job of not destroying. They were happy to leave the old stones for me for future projects and more or less stacked them in good spots. They did have to displace some irrigation, and they appear to have done a pretty good job of rebuilding that. They did, however, forget to attach nozzles onto the new sprinkler risers.
I contacted them and they didn't seem to know what I was talking about so I just bought some (cheap) and replaced them myself, then re-angled and adjusted the heads myself. The wall appears to be well-built and solid. There's a couple of places that I'm mildly concerned about because they built a fairly small line around the garden, but it's anchored into a footer and they promised it'd be strong.
They do have a 5-year warranty if stones fall. Mortar between stones is already cracking in places, as expected, but nothing appears to be shifting. In one spot they were meeting up with an existing paverstone wall that they weren't touching, and they displaced a few stones and left them for me to divide and reattach myself. The workers were competent and did nice work.
There was usually an English-speaking worker on site, and the foreman came around regularly. They were responsive to questions and changes I had and got them done rapidly. We paid half up front (11 weeks in advance) and half in the week after completion. No problems, no hassles, exactly as quoted.

We retained JCL Landscape Services to remove our existing fence and wooden retaining wall and replace it with a stone retaining wall and basic wooden fence. We had a contract with JCL Landscape Services dated 6/1/20 that states: Item 1.b) Excavate into grade to accommodate width of new wall and not encroach on property below Item 1.d) Installation of concrete footer with rebar per engineering design JCL Landscape Services did not excavate into grade to accommodate width of new wall per the contract.
Nor did JCL Landscape Services did not take any steps to record or mark the property line to ensure the new wall was entirely on our property. The construction of the new retaining wall destroyed any signs of the original property line. As it appeared the new retaining wall was being built across the property line onto the neighbor's property, we hired a professional land surveyor to establish the location of the property line.
This was done to prevent issues with the current owner and possible future property owner(s). The land surveyor determined the new retaining wall built by JCL Landscaping Services extended 6 inches beyond the property line between us and our neighbor. During the construction of the retaining wall, JCL Landscape Services did not install a concrete footer with rebar as stated in Item 1.d) in the contract.
The stone retaining wall was built directly on the soil. Although it was not stated in the contract, it was assumed the fence posts would be vertical and a uniform and correct height for the fence. The fence posts were not vertical in many instances, and many were too short resulting in issues with attaching the top rail of the fence to the post. In several cases, the end caps on the fence posts would not fit properly into the fence post as the rail strap extended above the post.
We met with Brandon after the wall and fence was completed, but prior to staining the fence. Brandon deserves credit for volunteering to completely remove the new retaining wall and fence and re-build with the concrete footer and rebar per the contract. The fence was taken down and the fence panels were stacked around our back yard. The original retaining wall was demolished.
The second retaining wall was built per the specifications outlined in our contract. Using the boundary markers left by the survey crew, JCL Landscape Services was able to construct the wall on our property. JCL Landscaping did an excellent job cleaning up the neighbor's property and laying new sod. With the initial build, tear down, and rebuild, this project took more than twice as long as the original time estimate to complete the project.
The payment per the contract to JCL Landscape Services was $25,400. We deducted the amount we paid the land surveying company, $378.88, from our final payment. The land surveying expense would not have been incurred if the first retaining wall had not crossed onto our neighbor's property. JCL Landscaping accepted the payment of $25,021.12. We were not told at the time of this payment our warranty was void.
I contacted JCL Landscape Services approximately 13 months after the completion of this project and asked them to fix a sagging gate. Here is the response from JCL Landscaping Services: "Sorry, but when you decided not to pay your final bill you voided your warranty with JCL on the fence and retaining wall. We will not be repairing anything for you. I would recommend the (sic) using the money you took from us to fix your gate."

We are so happy with JCL's work! We had all our railroad ties replaced with a retaining wall and a new patio poured, stamped, and stained. We are so happy with the results. They are extremely thorough and talented in their skills. The crews were super professional and did an amazing job and cleaned up well after. Robert was very communicative in keeping us up to date on this large project's timelines and budget. We couldn't be more pleased! It completely transformed our home and we are so happy we chose JCL! Can't wait to start using our amazing new patio. Thanks, JCL!

JCL Landscaping, Robert Avalos, Operations Manager, was professional, courteous and followed up via text on regular intervals, and started sooner than projected. The retaining wall they put in for us is beautiful! The workers, Caesar and his assistant, worked out in the dead of heat, worked throughout the day, cleaned up and folded back our water hoses at the end of the day every day. Robert did a final walkthrough and everything was GREAT! We even tipped the workers because of the fine job they did.

Five Star Rating - We had JCL install a new retaining wall and install an 8' board on board cedar fence. First, let me say they are very professional and fantastic to work with from initial contact through job completion. The crews work very fast and always maintain a clean job site. Everything was delivered as promised. Two thumbs up. William

JCL exceeded my expectations. The quality of work was top notch, everyone in the crew was extremely friendly, the price was reasonable for the amount of work that they did. Brandon did an excellent job communicating during the whole process. I will be using them again on future projects and will be recommending them to everyone in our area.

I hired them for rebuilding a retaining wall that had collapsed during the rains last fall. I looked up online and got quotes from half a dozen or so contractors and picked JCL Landscape contractor after seeing good reviews. It went very well till the very end. They built the retaining wall in Feb this year and I was mostly satisfied with the work they did so I also had them build steps down the retaining wall.
But some issues cropped up, the neighbor broke my irrigation and I did not realize it, JCL spent some time figuring it out and I paid $1000 for getting that fixed. But when everything was done, I realized JCL had broken the irrigation below the wall and that line was leaking a lot of water that was keeping that stretch wet all the time. So, JCL agreed to fix it, they bought pipes to replace the line, they capped existing lines, and laid out the pipes there, they also removed the valves that were damaged.
The day they were going to fix it, I made the mistake of giving them the last payment check. I left to work after giving the check and within 10 min of that they left everything as is and left my yard. They never came back to finish the work. I just assumed they were waiting for the rains to stop and then complete the work, I was wrong. I emailed them 2 weeks back asking them to come and finish the work. That's when it all went down the drain.
They point blank refused to do any more work. They said they did what they had agreed to and that was it. I reminded them that they broke the irrigation, that they had also brought the pipes to fix it and had removed the valves etc. At that point they just said they were not going to continue the conversation anymore and that I should not contact them again.
I did not know what to do at that point and did not respond to them except saying do what you think is appropriate. I waited for a week and then posted a review on HomeAdvisor.com, from where I got their contact in the first place. The next day they emailed me saying the will fix it if I removed the bad review. I said you complete the work and I will remove the review.
They refused. That's where it stands at this time. I am preparing to make a formal complaint to BBB at this point. I don't see any other way of making them do the work. I will not say don't hire them, but I will say, don't make the full payment till you have the work done to your satisfaction. I would rate them 3 stars for work, 0 for honesty and integrity.
I am surprised there were no negative reviews for them on HomeAdvisor.com, I am sure there are others who have seen this kind of behavior. At this point I am looking to hire somebody else to complete the work, I don't trust them anymore. It may actually not cost all that much but I feel cheated and I wanted to make sure people know what they are getting into when the hire them.

We had JCL remove our swimming pool, install grass sod over the filled in pool, replace wood retaining wall with rock retaining wall, and adjust backyard fence to compensate for pool decking removal. They did an outstanding job. The estimate was very accurate and they work fast but very good. They cleaned up every day before leaving and they fixed anything the heavy equipment broke during demolition of pool, including sprinkler system and installing four new sprinklers to irrigate the new sodded area.
Top notch company and owner Brandon Elmore was very pleasant to work with and was in constant communication with his work teams and us. I would not hesitate to have them back for more work and that might happen soon for some more retaining wall replacements. Cecil Langham - Grapevine, Texas

I contracted with Jcl landscaping to remove my pool. After waiting 9 weeks he in fact did complete the work. However, during the process he used a machine that had completely bald tires resulting in total destruction of my adjacent yard and broke a main water line which he refused to fix. The dirt used to fill my pool was not raked, there were tree roots and rocks all over the surface, which will require a lot more work to get ready for grass seed.
The adjacent area was left rutted, mud clods down our driveway. The first time I met Brandon and he sold us this job, he was personable and polite; when speaking to him about our concerns after the completion that person was not present. He never showed up to look at the completed job. It was my intention to use him for the finish out of my backyard, but I certainly won't do that now.
