While I want to love this place because it's absolutely beautiful, I have a hard time saying anything nice after one of their workers just hung up on me! I spent over $700 on plants at Passiglia's this spring and two of my trees have died, along with two hydrangeas. It's very generous that Passiglia's offers a 50% credit towards new plants, but I think they need to work on how to talk to their customers! Rude!

I called to see if they had the types of plants I was looking for, as gifts for a very special lady. The woman who answered said everyone else was busy but she'd help me. Great, thanks! So I asked about two or three different plants. After a couple questions she became very short with me, and after another sentence, she took it to the point of being rude.
She said they were short-handed and I'd have to come in to get any more questions answered. At that point she was nearly yelling at me, and she almost hung up on me! I told her I'm in the Chicago suburbs, so coming in would be a little difficult. I said these gifts were for dear friends in Ballwin. Then I let her know that I wanted to choose, order and pay for them, and the lady's daughter was going to pick up my selections as gifts for two occasions -- the lovely lady's 100th birthday, and her Mothers Day present.
But Oh, No, I Certainly Could Not Do That! She indignantly told me the people would have to choose their own plants! Nor could I pay for these plants which I was not allowed to select -- absolutely out of the question! My only option was to get a gift card. Then these folks would have to come in, select their own plants, and pay for them with the gift card. (All this was delivered NOT in a nice, or apologetic, or understanding, or even a remotely professional, tone that you would expect from someone in a business situation; but instead, rudely, as though I were endlessly haranguing this person and being completely unreasonable.
Several sentences ago, I had stopped talking. I was both disgusted and angry. At this point, going on a hunch, I quietly asked if the only way to purchase a gift card was online (because of course that would get me out of her hair). She said yes. I thanked her and she instantly hung up. Interestingly, I then called a nursery and garden center called Sugar Creek Gardens.
I'll spare you the detailed walk through that conversation by summarizing it: EVERY WORD, POLICY, ACTION, ATTITUDE, PHRASEOLOGY AND STATEMENT FROM THE LADY AT SUGAR CREEK GARDENS WAS THE EXACT POLAR OPPOSITE OF PASSIGLIA'S. Kim at Sugar Creek was obviously very busy too, but when I apologized, she said (in a cheerful voice!) that I shouldn't worry -- I was not disturbing her, and she was happy to help me!
Throughout our conversations that day (yes, , plural!) she could not have been nicer, more accommodating, and more delightful. I decided within the first three minutes that no matter what Sugar Creek's charges were, I'd buy all my plants from them. And do you know what? They were amazingly reasonably priced! I'm from St. Louis, grew up there, and have many, many friends and family there. Guess who is getting ALL my garden and floral business in the future?
