In the past year we've had extensive work done on our house with an army of workers, none have been as conscientious, considerate and hard working as your crew. A Yard & A Half Landscaping is a Waltham, MA landscaping company founded by Eileen Michaels in 1988. Over the years, she grew the design/build/maintain firm to a place in the top 15% of U.S. landscaping companies and the top 3% of all women-owned companies by annual sales. Eileen accomplished this by guaranteeing all of A Yard & A Half's work and investing in her employees. In preparation for her retirement, she offered the employees the chance to buy the company, and we incorporated as a worker-owned cooperative.

I called Yard and A Half for fall clean up, tree work and advice on ongoing maintenance of the yards and woods at our new house. They were experts, understanding the best approach to maximize the native plants, explained the various plants' flowering cadences and gave solid advice on how to care for the "lawn" that seems to pretty wild at this point.
Their service was fast and thorough. It was a pleasure to work with them to get my yard cleaned up and it is heartening to know that it is an employee-owned company treating their employees well. Their employee retention is remarkable with many people having worked there for 20 or 30 years. It felt good to support a company doing the right thing and they were affordable and quality. What's not to love.
