River City Lawnscape

I have mixed feelings about River City Lawnscape. We started working with them last summer when we built our home and had an entire home to landscape. I love gardening and so was excited that they offered a DIY landscape where they help with the design and I could do the planting. I called to ask about it and the garden center manager Alysha was prompt in her reply, was out to our home soon after to measure and started designing.

She was very passionate about her work, listened intently to what we were after and came up with a beautiful design, we were truly impressed! The manager also was helpful and suggested buying plants during certain sales; and understood that we needed to stick to a budget also. She offered to come out to show us how to trim back the plants in the fall and we really felt our business was appreciated!

We started purchasing all our plant materials last summer, several tree and many perennials and shrubs, around $4k, and bought more this spring when we started working on other beds. We knew we were paying more at a nursery but with the promise of healthier stronger plants. When I had asked the manager last summer about the warranty, she had said they'd replace the plant if it didn't come back this spring.

Most of the plants came back beautifully, but about 10% did not. I stopped in, in May to buy some hydrangeas and asked about the ones that hadn't come back yet, the employee had asked which plants weren't coming back, told me to give it a few more weeks as spring has come late this year. I did that, and still there were some that didn't. Yesterday I called to ask the process to get those plants replaced, did I need to dig them up and bring them in etc, the employee on the phone told me to bring my receipts and tags in, and she'd be able to replace it with plants that were in stock in the garden center, meaning I might have to substitute other plants as they are not ordering any plants until fall, which I was ok with.

Today I drove to the garden center with my tags/receipts hopeful to replace those plants, but left with none. I think I was speaking with a manager or owner today, and basically was told the warranty was not explained properly to me. Unfortunately this was not how it was told to me. He was helpful and suggested I split plants this fall to make up for some of the plants that didn't come back.

I can understand both sides. They have a business to run and I can imagine many people buy plants, maybe don't care for the properly and they die. I am not one to complain, as it often is not kind or helpful, so I leave this review mores as feedback, but also with slight disappointment. There is some inconsistency from what I was told last summer, and from yesterday to today.

I have many more plants to buy for the rest of our beds and I question if I will return to River City for the rest of our plants. Here are a few photos of one of our beds. Thank you for listening!

These people are lazy and rude. They charge Alot for services but can trim! I've had to ask every season please trim and the guy was rude and did a Terrible job. Tried calling the company and they don't answer or call back. Do the job right or get into a new line of business!

River City Lawnscape did an excellent job in helping make our dream patio a reality. Drew provided such insight on details one does not realize when initiating a project such as this. The crew that worked on our patio were both friendly and knowledgeable and take great pride in their work and want to be sure that it's exactly as you have envisioned.

Since it's completion we can't even express how much we have enjoyed this space and the new memories already created amongst family and friends. Thank you River City Lawnscape!

Starting with our communications with Tom Deml, he was clear, concise, helped with creative and critical problem solving, was responsive to concerns, visited the site often, and continues to be supportive as we move to the next phase of the project. I can't say enough about his leadership. Thank you! Noah and Jesse, two very young men, hard working, caring, and respectful.

They showed great care while laying each memorial brick, listened to our dear octogenarian, Aunt Doris, who explained where each brick should be placed. They honored her, her stories, and each person who has a memorial brick. I truly get goose bumps every time I think back on those two days of working with them. Patient, attention to detail, and respectful.

We had trees planted in our new yard. Tim came over, got it done very quickly and professionally and offered great information along the way. Very pleasant and courteous! Highly recommended!

Called looking for specific grasses for my landscaping. Alysha was super helpful, knew exactly what I was looking for, had the plants in stock and set them aside for me to pick up later in the day. I had never been to this nursery/garden center before. What a beautiful place and nice plant selection. Competitive pricing, very helpful and knowledgeable. Provided a wonderful product to keep the rabbits from eating my coneflower. I will definitely visit and shop there again! Thanks Alysha!

A great group of people to work with! I have had River City do several landscaping projects in the past and I have ordered bulk mulch from their garden center a few times. They recently completed a fairly large landscaping project and a very large irrigation project for me. Tom came up with a very good design that addressed all of our wants. He also worked with the landscapers to make sure everything was done right and the tree quality was good. Adam and his crew did a very good job of with the irrigation system. It's easy to see that the River City crew cares a great deal about their customer's satisfaction.

We love this place. Garden center staff were knowledgeable in answering our questions. The plants and bushes were healthy and priced well.

I've been working with Mel and the crew at River City for four years now. They always keep our apartment grounds looking beautiful. If we've ever had a problem, they are here to fix it quickly. Every crew member that has every been at the property has been very polite and friendly! Keep up the good work!

What a pleasure it was to work with Chris and Adam. Our system wasn't a fun install, lots of hand digging: Both were very positive and had the "we will make it work" attitude. I'm not easily impressed.but I have to say I would be proud to have these men as employees! Kenda went above and beyond as well.

We recently had River City do a major landscaping job at our home. Janet and I would like to extend our thanks to the outstanding crew that worked on site, Josh, Gabe, and Jerimiah. This was a physically demanding job and several days were unfortunately during the recent heat alert. Despite the challenging job and conditions, the crew worked hard and maintained a very high level of professionalism and quality of work.

We were particularly impressed by Josh's communication with us about the status of the job and making sure that we had input at key points in the project. We appreciated that Josh identified and ultimately repaired work from prior landscaping that had been damaged. We are extremely pleased with the final product. This is just the start, as it's now on us to use plantings to realize our vision.

Still without the planning help of Robin and the hard work of Josh, Gabe, and Jerimiah, we would never have been able to be in the position to create our new look. Thanks so much for your hard work.

You guys constantly impress me so much. I appreciate everything you do from the planning to the follow up. I especially can't say enough about the fact that you checked on your recent project, and repaired an area of washout by the steps after this most recent rain. It absolutely made my week that you guys did that! You take customer service to a superior level!

If I could give this place -5 stars, I would. I came home from work on Aug. 15th to find 3 of my bushes severely trimmed/butchered in my back yard. (These were buses I've been trying to grow into a privacy hedge between myself and my neighbor). After some investigative work, I learned my next door neighbor hired River City Lawnscape to trim ONE BUSH on the southeast side of her property.

My property is to the north of hers. Not only did they trim her bush, they trimmed 3 of mine and another one of hers, for a total of 5 bushes. I do not understand how a work order to trim one bush, turned into 5 bushes? My neighbor was very apologetic for the error and said she was in contact with River City Lawnscape about the mistake. Since I had not heard from anyone at River City Lawnscape by Aug. 22nd, with an apology or some type of compensation, I called and when I told them why I was calling, I was put into voicemail. Aug. 23rd, I called again as no one returned my call. Again, I was put into voicemail after they found out who I was and why I was calling.

I was also told they had no idea when Melissa would be back in the office. Aug. 26th, still no one called me back, so I called again and was able to speak with Melissa. She had no explanation as to why this happened. She explained the workers had come out to trim the bush, but were unsure about what to do so she pulled them off the job until she could explain the job in detail.

They came back a second day and trimmed 5 bushes instead of one. The attached photos show what is left of my privacy hedge. Melissa offered to "work with me" and that I should call her in the spring and she will personally come out to put some good fertilizer on my bushes to "boost" their growth. At this point, I'm not sure all the fertilizer in the world is going to help?

I think they need to be replaced. Every time I look out my window, and see the chopped up bushes I get furious. As someone who meticulously maintains her own lawn and bushes, I find it despicable that River City Lawnscape can come on my property UNAUTHORIZED, trimmed my bushes, not contact me with an apology or compensation or return my phone calls. This is NO WAY to run a respectable business.
