Come on in and see the changes. Come visit us and find out why we're the most unique little nursery on the central coast! When you enter the small western town of The Educated Gardener you will most likely be welcomed by Max our friendly greeter dog. Enjoy our casual atmosphere while you browse or feed the fish.
Services
Concerned about mosquitoes? We carry a product called Pre-Strike which stops the developing mosquitoes from becoming adults, provides control for up to 21 days & when used as directed product will not adversely affect humans, animals, fish or vegetation. We use this product in all boggy areas where the water fluctuates too much to maintain a population of mosquito fish.
Our nursery is located in the inland portion of North San Luis Obispo county. The climate here is both hotter in the summer (up to 114*) and cooler in the winter (record lows to 7*) than our neighbors in San Luis Obispo who have the moderating affect of the coast. We choose plants with these extremes in mind and offer a selection of plants that are hardy to zone 7 and to zone 8 for those who wish to be more daring or live in one of our many micro climates which are a little warmer in the winter. We strive to help our customers do it right the first time and do not carry plants just because they are showy!

If you are in Santa Margarita, this well cared for, somewhat eclectic, nursery is worth a visit. Home to one of the largest grape vines I have ever seen, the owner has stocked the grounds with all kinds of interesting plants - be sure to explore all the well hidden corners for interesting finds. The owner is a wealth of knowledge, not only of the product she sells, but of the local history.

The Educated Gardener has been the spot I take my kids to experience an outdoor place with beautiful ponds, funny chickens and singing canaries. Every corner has a new discovery for them. My mom loved to stop by after visiting and bought new plants, or a piece of Mexican pottery. I would suggest having regular classes on weekends to spread the knowledge. Wildflower identification class?
