For almost 10 years, we have been involved in designing & building swimming pools. We started as the subcontractor, working for the pool companies in aspects such as decking, water features, masonry, etc.. It became extremely apparent that the pool builder was completely dependent on the sub-contractor (it's the same way today) All you had to do was have a cell phone & a truck, and you were a pool builder! Pools would take months to complete, and would sometimes sit for weeks waiting on someone to show up to work. The landscape couldn't start until the pool was finished. The homeowner had to find another contact to build the pergola. The pool builder had very little regard for the overall project, he just wanted to build the pool and that was it. Ultimately, the homeowner was held hostage, and hoped that everything came together on budget! The process just didn't make sense. So, In 2005, we started building our own pools, outdoor structures, and landscapes. As one of the first landscape & pool general contractors in Phoenix, Unique set the precedence for outdoor construction.
Today, with over 250 pools in the ground, we have mastered the integration of the swimming pool with the landscape & outdoor environment. Unique is not set up as a production pool builder (the term given to some of the larger pool companies because of their non-custom approach to pool construction & their lack of integration for entire project). At the young age of 12, the owner, Chris Griffin started pushing a lawn mower around his neighborhood in Oklahoma City to earn extra money. We used Unique Landscapes and Pools for a complete backyard which consisted of a in ground swimming pool, water feature, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, elevated vegetable garden, hard scape, pergola and turf. We are very happy with the design and work performed. Really everyone was very hard working and very pleasant to work with. I would highly recommend this company.

Unique Landscapes & Custom Pools began the pool building and backyard remodel process with us in December 2020 and the project completed in September 2021. Each week a new obstacles presented itself that wasn't because of Unique; the issues ranged from hard dig problems to covid pandemic related issue but through it all Keith, Zach and Dacia kept in contact while trying to resolve the issues.
While the individuals listed previously took care of the pool and all related issues Mike and his landscape crew tackled the turf installation and amenities. I cannot speak more highly of the work and service provided by these particular individuals. I already have recommended and would again recommend Unique.

I'm completely baffled on how this company operates - we were assigned Jonathan as our consultant. He came over for the consultation and we followed up with notes and inspiration pictures. He said he'd get us an initial design in two weeks. At four weeks we followed up and 3 days later got a comp that wasn't as close to our final project as we. liked so we asked for some tweaks via email.
Two weeks later, when we didn't have a reply on that email, we checked back in. He asked if we were available for a call, we said yes, and then didn't hear from him for another week. We were pretty patient still at this point, giving the benefit of the doubt that it's summer and he could be busy. when we.

Unique Landscapes did a great job remodeling our pool and entire back yard patio space that was 19 years old and in need of a renovation. The professional team converted our pool from plaster to pebble, covered our old cool decking with beautiful travertine tile, rebuilt our pool fountain and our outdoor BBQ kitchen area, and converted an old fireplace into a more functional fire pit.
Our project lead, Bart, did a great job managing the different trades as they completed different parts of the project and was very easy to communicate with. We even made some on-the-fly changes as things progressed with the project and Bart quickly got the team to adjust to our desired change. The Unique team was also great at fixing things we weren't completely satisfied with, such as adjusting deck tiles that we wanted better aligned.
The entire project looks amazing and truly transformed our back yard into a fresh and clean new look. Also, the design and administrative staff were great to work with and were very customer-service focused. We'd recommend Unique Landscapes to anyone doing a pool and backyard update renovation!

Our transaction with this company was really poor. It's a shame it went the way it did. The Unique Sales guy came to our house and built out a beautiful pool with everything we wanted - 52k. After the CONTRACT went to the engineer team, they stated that many items in the drawing were not included in the contract. They refused to honor the drawing. and what their sales guy promised.
We decided to part ways with the company and asked for our deposit back because it was their errors that led us to cancel. They claimed it was a "Wrongful Termination" and refused to give us the deposit. We are bummed. We wanted to do the project with them and had 25k in future projects planned with them but at the end of the day, we cannot work with a company that will not take responsibility for their mistakes.

My project included a pergola, bbq w/ countertop, artificial turf, concrete, and trees/plants with irrigation. The project began with a design member coming over and talking with me about budget and design ideas. This phase was relatively quick and easy. Within a week I received a design plan including pictures and measurements of the project. Next I was setup with a construction supervisor and told when to expect a crew on site. Overall, the construction of my project went smooth.
The supervisor was good with keeping me informed about phases of construction and was able to make several small changes on the fly. The construction crews (contractors and Unique employees) were always respectful while on site. Unique gave me exactly what I asked for and was consistent with the design plan. I'm loving my new backyard!

Normally I become very annoyed with my wife's extensive research on projects, products etc. So glad I left her alone. Purchased a new home in Queen Creek at the end of December. We knew our next purchase would be a pool for the back. My wife looked up reviews, postings, ratings and pictures before settling on Unique Pool and landscaping in Chandler AZ.
What could have been a very stressful time considering we are in Illinois turned out to be a huge positive. I was so very fortunate to work with a truly professional team who handled every worry with always an immediate response. My team included primary contacts of Kevin and Bart. I can't begin to tell you how instrumental these two guy's were. They never once questioned my inquiries and always responded immediately to concerns.
If you are smart enough to choose Unique for your pool demand that these guys work on your project. Shout out to Pam in financing who was kind enough to hold my hand threw l process. Even the president of the company responded when I would throw out an Email. I have seen many photos of grandchildren enjoying pool and my first visit to my home will be at the end of May. We had blank backyard. We contacted Unique along with other companies. We gave all an idea and a budget. The other two came back with nothing close to our budget and one of the two didn't do landscape. Mike (who has been amazing) gave us something under our budget allowing for more improvement. Jay and Charles ( the managers of the project) have always answered any questions I had (even on weekends) very quickly. Pamela was very helpful in getting our wire transfers handled. Ronny, in charge of pool set everything up and explained very well.
One the project was done we found somethings that needed touch up. They we're out the next day. These people have gone above what they are supposed to do. From extra lines for trees we put in ourselves to making our gates code safe for the pool. I would recommend to anyone.

To begin, I sought several quotes for our project. One thing that caused Unique to stand out was 1) RESPONSIVENESS (received email back same day I expressed interest in this company inquiring when I'd like to meet with a design rep), 2) CONSISTENT UPFRONT COMMUNICATION (other companies would delay or sometimes not respond to emails but I generally received email response back the same day), 3) HELPFUL WEBSITE (very nice portfolio that was absent many other companies' websites and increased my confidence about moving forward with this company).
I give this company an A rating because I now have an absolutely beautiful fire pit that I'm proud of. The flagstone work really is something else. I attached a few pics, probably doesn't do justice though. And as you'd expect it's mostly appreciated at night with the firepit and 2 fire columns lit up and the high quality lighting tucked under the bench wall.
The softscaping around the fire pit is still lacking, but that's because I've taken too long deciding on how I want the plants done, but I can't wait to complete that part of it which will truly help showcase this beautiful piece of masonry. One thing I should mention is that the owner of the company takes an active interest in all his projects and comes across as competent, caring, professional, and very objective.
As far as objectivity I appreciate his candor regarding the implications of maintaining a salt water pool while upgrading the pool decking to travertine. Other companies were excited to recommend it as it is a huge upsell. However, Unique's owner, Chris Griffin, wanted to make sure I knew of the potential consequences of such a move (some people find that salt water can negatively affect their natural travertine stone - certain grades and colors more than others - a risk I didn't want to take).
Ultimately when I decided I wasn't willing to give up a salt water system (and didn't want to routinely pay for an expensive travertine sealant that would protect it from the salt water) it was decided not to pursue a travertine decking. And it's nice that this information is also found on Unique's website, something I have not seen on any other Phoenix landscaping website. I would use Unique again in the future and recommend them to my friends and colleagues.

We just finished an extensive pool and patio project at our home in the East valley. Unique is the company to hire! They built us a beautiful outdoor space we are proud to share with family and friends for years to come. All of the staff was outstanding to deal with from start to finish. Our superintendent on the project did a fabulous job for us. We would definitely recommend Unique to anyone!

They came highly recommended and still managed to blow away our expectations! Their prices are much l better than the big competitors we had come out and bid. The designer from California Pools had no useful input on how to design a space beyond throwing a hole in the ground.

After getting several quotes we decided on using Unique to build our entire yard. Initial sales and design was handled by Mike Trail who was fantastic. Wonderful ideas that gave our yard the Wow factor we were looking for. Construction of the pool was headed by Donny Schmuhl who was great to deal with. Excellent follow up and handled the dig and plumbing perfectly. Donny was consistently avail and answered all of our questions quickly.
Construction of the outdoor kitchen, hardscape, plants and misters was handled by Ron Pickard. Ron is awesome. Great follow-up and a pleasure to work with. I communicated with Ron on a daily basis. He was always avail and followed-up on every question. Fantastic! Ron was a true pleasure to deal with. Our project was huge and a few hic-ups are expected to occur, what’s amazing is how those issues were addressed and corrected with ease and efficiency.
