The company was founded by Dan Cleary in 2006 to provide Philadelphians a source for organic and sustainable landscaping services.From his first professional job in horticulture at age 14 working at a custom garden design company, to earning a B.S. in Sustainable Landscape Horticulture and launching EcoGardens, Dan has worked to hone his abillities as a designer. Armed with the belief that superb designs add far more than only their visual beauty, and that every customer should feel completely satisfied after working with EcoGardens, the companies reputation has grown to be the best in organic and sustainable landscaping in the Philadelphia area.

Edible landscaping integrates food production into the home landscape. While this can be in the form of traditional vegetable beds for things such as cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and other annuals, edible landscaping is also using plants that produce food into an aesthetically pleasing design. A good example is using blueberry bushes in home gardens. Blueberry bushes flower in the spring, have incredible red fall foliage and are overall handsome plants, but they also produce delicious blueberries every year. Cherries, sugarplums, hazlenuts, pears, apple trees - the list of beautiful flowering plants that produce edibles goes on and on. Herbs are also another way to integrate edible plants into the garden. A landscape can be both visually beautiful year-round AND productive.

I recently worked with Dan, Mike, and their team on a decently sized landscaping project at my home, which has a number of unique considerations. Bottom line: these guys are fantastic and go above and beyond. Not only did Dan come up with great ideas during the planning stage, but during execution, they were flexible and innovative as inevitable and unexpected challenges arose.
They fixed things and didn't nickel-and-dime me. I felt like we were on the same team. Also, they were courteous and very communicative throughout the project, which took 5 days. Working with them felt less like a transaction and more like a partnership. They knocked it out of the park and I'll neither use nor recommend anyone else in the future. Perhaps most importantly, I felt like I could trust Dan, Mike, and the whole crew. On time and on budget. These are the guys you want to do business with!

I reached out to EcoLandscapes and consulted with Dan to discuss transforming the space around my home into a habitat for birds & pollinators as well as installing a raised vegetable garden. From the start, I was very impressed! Dan worked with me to create a vision of the new gardens and dedicated himself to selecting the very best plants & shrubs for the space.
I appreciate that I could easily communicate with him in the planning phase as well as the transparency in pricing and timelines. Dan has great knowledge of plants, shrubs & trees. I appreciate that he worked with me to include plants I like with consideration of what worked best in the space. In the planning process I asked if his team could install a pre-fab raised garden bed I purchased.
Without hesitation he said it was not a problem. Team Leader Josh and his crew were assigned to my project. I can't say enough about them - skilled, competent, professional and very hard working! Josh and his team went above and beyond to install the raised vegetable garden - I was blown away! They put such care and detail in the project. It far exceeded my expectations! From initial consultation to our final wave goodbye to the team when our new landscaping was complete, it was a pleasure to have Eco Landscape Design implement our new landscaping. Communication across the team was detailed, thorough, and timely. The the initial proposal and design was a collaborative process which resulted in beautiful gardens of native plants that gives us the "Pennsylvania Wilds" feel that we wanted.
The moment the crew arrived to start our transformation they walked us through what to expect that each day and were in constant communication with us as questions came up. The team is so kind and positive! The work area was neat and tidy at the end of each day. I can't wait to see how our gardens mature over the years! Daniel and his team were excellent to work with on our patio installation last fall. We've enjoyed this extra outdoor space, especially during the pandemic, and the garden has been in constant bloom since the spring. The design process was really enjoyable, and Daniel was always quick to respond to questions and adjustments. They even installed a sun shade which has made the space even more useable. Highly recommend!

This is my second time working with Ecolandscapes. The first time was so successful and I found Dan Cleary to be extremely knowledgeable about plants and also creating a sustainable design. Dan listened carefully to wants/needs. He considered our site, its situation and uniqueness and created a design that's functional and beautiful. The design incorporates a mixed border planting with evergreens, flowering bushes, and some edibles.
There is also a seating area where we have a fire table, a corner herb garden, and 2 large raised beds for veggies. Our installation team included Mike, Matt, and Brandon who worked very hard to complete the job to my fall satisfaction. The guys did great work and had excellent customer service. Several of neighbors took Ecolandscape's contact as a result of their great work!
The job was done in November 2018 and its winter now. Can't wait for spring bloom! Update: It's July 2019, about 8 months since EcoLandscapes did our yard. It's turned into an urban paradise. I've added photos so you can see how's everything's grown so far. The veggie and herb garden are my plantings, but I show them to illustrate the excellent soil amendments the team did! I've had color and interest since early spring. My yard is my happy place! Thank you EcoLandscapes!

Dan Cleary of EcoLandscapes inspired confidence from the moment I met him. I showed him a picture of the type of low maintenance, Asian-feel landscaping I wanted in my backyard. We discussed it, and he sent me his vision for it within a couple of days. I was very impressed with what I saw. After discussing benefits of different plants and making some adjustments, his crew of three came in.
With Dan's direction, they transformed my backyard in just a week. It's absolutely beautiful. They first took out my existing lawn. Then they used flagstone paving stones, gravel and river rock for the hardscape areas; ornamental grasses, various shrubs, and a chartreuse japanese maple for planted areas. I have never had such a gorgeous yard. They also took out and replaced an Alberta spruce I had in my front yard with a crepe myrtle, and replaced the lawn with mulch so I can plant perennials.
In addition, I have never had such a good experience with a contractor and crew. Dan did what he said he would do, responded to any questions I had very quickly, and clearly knew what he was doing. His crew - Mike, Matt and Jeff - were incredibly hard workers who were always a pleasure to talk with, and very patient and polite when I had questions or wanted small adjustments made. Dan was great. We were complete novices at hiring someone to do this kind of work, and he was patient and kind with our questions and concerns. But before I go more into that - let me get to the bottom line: we now have this wonderful garden oasis in our backyard!! I love being back there. We live in a twin house, .13 acres, and a close walk into our town - we're not in a huge suburban or country property.
But Dan helped us create a woodsy, colorful, peaceful feeling that already is attracting birds and butterflies. We also loved his idea for the rain garden, feeling like we're doing our bit environmentally by using the runoff water from the roof rather than polluting our waterways with it...
