Sunny Hill Nursery was build and established by George McManaway back in the late 50's to early 60's. It was bought by my dad Leroy Ward in 1968 mainly as a hobby. At that time my dad was selling insurance with Pilot Life Insurance Co. and had always loved plants.
A few years later he left his job to open Wards Kuntry Store and Garden Shop on Weaverville Hwy in the mid 70's to help market the plants. It was at this time that my mom left her job as a nurse at Aston Park Hospital to help him with the nursery. As the business began to grow, customers became familiar with our location, therefore dad closed up the garden shop and people began coming to our nursery to purchase bedding plants, vegetables, and perennials.
In 1987, I got married and purchased Sunny Hill Nursery. As time went on I began to expand offering landscaping services. This was when became incorporated. As the landscaping began to grow, we began having children, making it more difficult to operate both the greenhouses and landscaping. Therefore after the blizzard of 1993, with the Lords help,we made the decision to close down the greenhouse part of operation, and became a full landscaping company.
We now have 21 employees and are serving both the residential and commercial communities. I give God all the praise and thanks for allowing Sunny Hill Nursery, Inc for operating for all of these years and being the successful company that it is today.
