Himount is a perfect place to live if you're looking to be close to the city and not pay city prices. What first attracted me to Himount was the look and feel of the apartments (gorgeous hardwood floor and wooden trim) and how affordable it was. In addition, you won't find a better manager than Jenny. She's organized, friendly, and to the point. Any question or concern I had was immediately addressed and handled appropriately. Great place to live

This is a great place. Majority of the rentals have hardwood floors, but there are a few with carpet if that's your preference. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. Parking is a little difficult since police station is on the other side of the street but you can get a parking spot. It's a good neighborhood for public transportation and about 15-20 minutes to Mayfair and downtown. It's also a great area for walking with bars and quick bites near by. I would recommend this place to other apartment hunters.

I was offered a midwifery clinical apprenticeship in Milwaukee, WI & I decided to move from Pittsburgh, PA in February 2019, at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in search of a safe, affordable, & clean place to live and call my home. Coming from a smaller inner city, I quickly realized the many challenges Milwaukee folks faced as far as finding safe, affordable housing in such a segregated city.
I was awestruck at the housing options available for people of color in the city of Milwaukee, which were commonly in rundown, drug & crime inflicted communities; and I was heartbroken when I witnessed various living conditions that people of color were subjected to living in, only because that was what they could afford. I was desperate. Himount Gardens was my last stop; because believe you me I was ready to return home. Jenny openheartedly & graciously worked with me & my husband.
Mind you, while all the other housing managers in Milwaukee either disregarded my application; told me I needed 2 years of rental history; or were giving me the absolute run around. I moved into my studio apartment {which is definitely way bigger than any studio apartment you will ever find in Milwaukee for the price} with hard wood floors, lots of windows with lots of lighting, & an old fashioned steam heating system, which warms the entire apartment, keeping it nice and cozy for those ridiculously cold days & nights in Milwaukee.
Parking is definitely a hassle sometimes {i get it; especially being a student midwife who would get up 2, 3, or even 4 in the morning}, but I didnt mind. Out here in these streets you really learn to give up one thing for the other. Himount Gardens was Home for me! Thank you so much Jenny! I can not explain how much of an impact you had in my journey as a midwife!
I really needed a safe place to stay and you made that possible. I will for sure miss Himount, for it used to be my stomping grounds, but I'm definitely praying my old apartment will be a safe, affordable place for someone else to live!

I've lived in this building for years and don't plan on leaving any time soon! It's close to two bus stops (21 and 57), Washington park, a residential neighborhood that's great for walking/running, a grocery store, bank, a few restaurants, etc. My studio is big with nice outdoor light, hardwood floors and a walk-in closet plus free heating. This building has great management and maintenance so if you do ever run into anything, it'll be taken care of quickly. Best apartment I've ever had!

This place feels like a home because of our great Mananger/Landlord Jennifer. Jennifer is very friendly yet professional. She always says it like it is, very knowledgeable, smart and to the point. I really believe she is responsible and professional on a consistent basis. Very understanding, No BS type of manager and will handle things accordingly.
After a year of living here I still continue to live here. I continue to live here because a big reason is that i believe this manager delivers a good atmosphere to all the residents every day and does her best to keep it safe and protected here as well. As a young female living alone in a neighborhood that is not the most safest, I find this a big deal what Jennifer is doing and I want to say thank you for that feeling of safety and positivity here is what has me really staying and not only that, there is a police station right across the building which is another huge plus.

I have been living here for just over 13 years now. I love this building it's in a great location to everything in milwaukee. Your right the center of the city, can get anywhere in about 10-20 min. The building has great features. Hardwood floors, free heat, laundry in the basement, locked lobby, storage in basement. Management addresses concerns quickly and maintenance is on top of repairs.
It may not be a modern building but it has a beautiful historical quality to it. It feels like home. Thick walls, don't hear much of the neighbors. Police department is across the street and helps the area feel safe. Off street parking( with a waiting list) but also street parking. Neighbors in the building are friendly. The management company goes above and beyond with tenant appreciation at Christmas and in summer. It's a great time to meet the neighbors. After all these years this building has truly become my home, even friends and family have moved in over the years. Love my home.

I have lived at the Himount apartments since 2008. Over all this has been a very quiet building, and I really like the location. It is less than a block walk to 2 different bus stops and this makes getting around Milwaukee very easy. My neighbors have always been nice and polite. I like living behind the police station because it makes me feel safer in a big city. I don't drive, but I do know that the parking can be difficult at times so that is the only thing I would say isn't the best, but otherwise I have always been happy here.

********BEWARE******** The manager comes off as nice, but she will racially profile you. I recently found out two weeks before I was set to move out that she falsely accused my boyfriend of being a drug dealer to my roommate and her husband. My roommate and her husband are extremely close friends of ours and notified us immediately. I was beyond pissed, but I kept my composure so that she wouldn't tamper with my security deposit as I've heard she's done in the past. Now, my boyfriend is a young black male with dread locs.
He doesn't sag is pants or wear baggy clothing, he dresses business casual for the most part and he graduated from Marquette University in May. She's probably exchanged a maximum of two words with him in the last year of him living there, so she wouldn't know that. The only thing she knows is that he has dread locs and he's black, so he must be a drug dealer.
On another occasion, my younger sister used my address to receive a delivery from Kohls she placed online after having issues receiving packages at her home address. Jennifer, proceeded to contact Kohls and report fraudulent activity- prior to asking or notifying me what was going on. My younger sister called me after Kohls contacted her to tell her the order was being cancelled and sent back.
Once I finally got in contact with Jennifer she agreed to release the package upon identifying my sister with photo ID. Apparently, this was not something she could do before reporting the delivery as fraudulent *sarcastic laugh*. Though the package was received, it was handled in a completely inappropriate manner and my younger sister was forced to appear inside of Kohls with proof of identity in order to have her a hold on her credit card removed as well. After living at Himount Gardens for 5 years, I couldn't be happier to be moving out of this dusty dump and into something more modern and updated!

I'm going on my second year living at Himount Gardens, and I do plan on being here for years to come. I don't feel like there is ever a perfect place to live. I have lived in other communities where the facade is perfection. brand new everything. and the management is crap. For me, this has been the perfect balance. Management is super nice and attentive, maintenance is courteous, and even though parking can suck sometimes if you get home late, I'll take that over being mistreated and having rent payments lost any day.
The building stays pretty clean, they do random bug inspections which makes me feel so much better about living in such a large building. The rent is reasonable, and even though my rent went up a little this year, that's how it was the last place I lived and in other places that my friends live in. This is a beautiful place to live and I recommend anyone looking check it out.

Beautiful hardwood floors, very clean, lovely courtyard, safe secured locked lobby, and quiet neighbors. I really love my apartment, it's close to everything, the expressway is only a block away making it easy to enjoy what Miller Parkway has to offer, I am extremely satisfied and comfortable at Himount Garden Apartments.

Pros: I lived at Himount Gardens for a year, and it was a great little studio apartment! The kitchens have all been updated with new cabinetry and appliances within the last few years and they are quite large! Even with it being a studio the kitchen and dining area was separated, which made the apartment feel even bigger. My favorite part of the apartment was the HUGE walk through closet (2 doors), I didn't even need to use my additional storage space because it was so large.
The apartment has nice hardwood floors, a nice bathroom with a large tub and shower, and another large closet with drawers and storage outside the bathroom. Another plus is that it is located right next to the freeway. The apartment manager is very friendly and deals with everything on a timely basis, she really cares for her tenants which is very important to me. Cons: Not the greatest neighborhood, but I personally never felt unsafe or had any issues with it.
Parking is also on a first come basis, which didn't always work with my schedule. We were able to park at Lisbon Screen free of charge which really eliminated this issue for me. Overall: I recommend the apartments, it is a great price for what you get.

The reason why I selected this property was due to it's central location and easy access to my school. I am a severe allergy sufferer especially against the dust mite, and therefore needed a place that does not have a fixed carpet (i.e., hardwood floor). Hardwood floors were pretty! I have moved in this apartment at 20010 during my Ph. D. for this purpose, and then lived here until the end of 2013.
I then graduated and moved to another state. In terms of safety, I did not faced with any security problem. Parking was also good. Maintenance was responsive and quick most of the time When Ihad a maintenance issue they're usually on it that day, if not then it's almost always the next - even for minor things. The Laundry area could use an update, but otherwise it also serviceable. All in all, I am satisfied with my experience at here, and recommend this apartments to everyone.

I lived here for 2 years and while the apartment was beautiful with its hardwood floors, crown molding and ample closet space, the neighborhood and staff left much to be desired. The maintence workers were creepy and I never really felt like I had any privacy due to the fact that they were entering my apartment at least once a month for "repairs" to things that had been functioning just fine.
My hunch is that due to the fact that the neighborhood is shady and that the quality of many of the residents is lacking, they feel the need to "check up" on the place. Still, as a 20 something female student who kept to herself, it made me very uncmfortable to have a stranger entering my home on a regular basis. I'd like to point out that the majority of the residents were decent, hardworking people but there were a few who liked to play out their relationship disputes loudly and in the hallways.
While the police are across the street, they are useless. I called them on one such physically violent domestic dispute once and it took them 45 minutes to arrive. The real reason I give this property only two stars is because of the management however. The woman in the front office is very nice so long as she is getting her way. Each year I felt coerced into renewing my lease under penalty of a $100/month increase in rent on a place that was already overpriced for the neighborhood it was in. Conversations with the woman in the office led me to believe that the building had difficulty finding tenants who consistently paid their rent on time or hadn't been recently evicted somewhere else and maybe that explains why the claws and fangs came out when I decided to move.
While I left the apartment in immaculate condition I not only didn't get my security deposit back but was billed $100 for a supposedly dirty stove. I believe a security deposit is specifically for those things but because I was young and stupid at the time, I paid it. I absolutely don't recommend this property for young females living alone however because I felt very taken advantage of.
