Each landscape integrates our clients' aesthetic and lifestyle, the character of the site and our experience with the goal of creating an outdoor living space that exceeds expectations. Our garden designs begin with a scaled drawing and continue through every detail and decision made during construction.
It is a privilege to be welcomed into the homes and lives of our wonderful clients. Creating a garden is as much about building a relationship as it is about selecting a plant palette or setting stone. Our portfolio is a source of pride, of course, but our greatest joy comes from exceeding the expectations of the outstanding people for whom we work.
Thanks for your interest and understanding. Mosaic Gardens designs and builds exceptional gardens. We are a fully licensed landscape contractor (OLCB #8508), and we construct all aspects of our projects, including planting, irrigation, stonework and other hardscape. We begin with an initial on-site consultation, in which we walk through the site together and discuss your project in detail.
This entry garden near Hendricks Park in Eugene, Oregon is among our favorites, and we are excited to see it featured in this month's Sunset ('The Path Ahead, ' p 49 and online). Unlike some of our more complex, colorful spaces, including other areas of the same property, this garden is striking because of its simplicity, a trait that not only inspired the design, but every decision and detail of construction along the way.

Mosaic designed our garden six years ago, now a beautiful spot which before was dry dirt under two huge trees with little sun. We had no idea that a shade garden could be created that is lush, thriving and beautiful. The upper garden has stone steps connecting us with our wonderful neighbors, this was requested by our grandchildren and their children.
To us it is a symbol of what it is to be neighbors. Every year we are amazed as Spring arrives, the Lenten roses begin to bloom and the garden bursts forth. We so enjoyed working and planning with Buell and Rebecca. They are very professional in their work but also intuitive as to the client's wants and so willing to explain and listen. We recommend them without reservation, they are wonderful.

As the new owners of a home with a small, very challenging yard we were looking for landscaping ideas when we happened upon Buell Steelman and Rebecca Sams building a stone wall in the neighborhood. That chance encounter led to an elegantly simple landscaping plan and transformed our lives. From relatively normal retirees we quickly morphed into gardening fanatics, inspired by the new plan from Mosaic Gardens.
Over the last eight years our garden has grown and evolved and become a great source of pride. All along the way, in every phase of design, construction and development Mosaic Gardens has provided inspiration, creative ideas, hard work, reliability and excellent results. On a five-point scale Mosaic Gardens gets five stars from us. If we could give them more than five stars we certainly would.

After a couple of attempts to create our garden, we chanced upon a photo in Sunset magazine depicting a garden that resonated with our aesthetic. Eugene is 65 miles away so we initially thought we'd contact Mosaic for design ideas. After meeting Rebecca and Buell, we decided that paying their travel costs was well worth having their hands in the dirt, and have never regretted that decision, which was 3 years ago.
And they are still developing and enhancing our garden, which is an oasis of serenity, subtlety, and harmony. Here are the qualities of Mosaic that make us love these guys: -sensitivity to the repose of the land, the unseen but imagined potential of land, light, and contour -encyclopedic knowledge of plants, their natural history, needs, compatibility, and life cycle -total commitment to the vision -fine tuned and subtle aesthetic -knowledge of a wide variety of materials, skill in construction, and resources to provide professional support when the task exceeds their skill set -creative vision, patience, perseverance -unwavering commitment to quality -ethical and fair business practices -sensitivity to client's sense of beauty, and ability to design and build that both aligns with and expands upon the client's imagination -friendly, with well behaved dogs Our garden has changed the way we relate to the outdoors year round. The biggest problem with it is that we won't be able to pack it up and take it with us when its time to move on.
