Services
Ivy Nursery was founded in 1975 by Clare and George Carter, both of whom have Master's Degrees in Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia. The Nursery is situated on seven acres on Scenic Rte. 250 West, three miles west of the University of Virginia, and a quarter of a mile west of The Boar's Head Inn and Farmington Country Club.
Ivy Nursery has over a hundred different varieties of roses, new cultivars along with old favorites, from hybrid teas and grandifloras to floribundas, shrub roses and climbers. We also have David Austin roses which gardeners love for their old fashioned fragrance and their double, peony like flowers. Our knockout roses, with their easy care and prolific bloom are perfect for the beginning rose gardener.
From pansies and primroses to geraniums and impatiens, Ivy Nursery has beautiful annuals which will bloom all summer in your containers or in your garden. Our annual flowers are all locally grown by pollinator friendly growers. That is, growers who don't use pesticides that are harmful to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.

This is a well stocked nursery and a helpful staff. The only thing I don't agree with is how you have to wait outside under a hot tent to pay for your items. You can walk freely around and come in contact with all the workers on the property and hand them your credit card to go make your payment but you can't go inside. If I have anything contagious the second I hand you my credit card and you go inside you have lost any protection you had from catching it.

This is a very well kept nursery just on the very west side of Charlottesville towards Crozet that has plenty to offer any gardener, beginner or advanced. They sell all sorts of plants including perineal, annuals, fruit trees and bushes, veggie garden supplies, tropical plants, air plants, succulents and even ginormous trees for landscaping at very reasonable prices!
Most of their inventory if not all, is organic including soil offerings, and supplies. You should definitely check this place out if you love gardening as much as I do, or need basic supplies!

I will not waste my time elsewhere, ever again! My mother frequented Ivy Nursery, and I never seemed to get there! Well, my son and I ventured there today after a doctor's appointment. The perennials are not as expensive as places near where we live!. And they are top quality, big and beautiful. We also bought TWO AMERICAN HOLlY TREES that we were in the market for. Reasonably priced, but this nursery has" pay dirt" that they highly recommend in the success of your plants, told me how much is needed, and also gave me their own instructions on having success with our planting!
I've never gotten this personal of service with any other nursery! We will go nowhere else now that we've discovered this gem! They're stuck with this family. This is a most awesome nursery

Got some great deals there ranging from trees to small potted flowers. All the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, answering questions on how to grow and maintain each plant I asked about. The place is really big, the variety is good and mostly local. In general more expensive than Lowes or Walmart but they had some great plants on clearance, and I left assured what I got was good quality. And if any plants weren't doing super well, they had them sectioned off where they could give them special care. Will definitely go back!

After a bad experience at The Garden Spot, I thought I would try Ivy Nursery. Almost immediately after walking through the door it was apparent that I am not a part of the targeted demographic. Not to mention when I asked some questions about some plants I was interested in, I was given rude and short answers, like I was annoying her or wasting her time. I also witnessed someone who I assume is management keep belittling another employee. I won't be returning as I just did not feel welcome or wanted as a customer at all.

An easy-going place with the best, healthy variety in town! Potted plants, flowers, bulbs, seeds, shrubs, trees, and even some indoor supplies, pots, etc. Additionally, they had a decent sale section when I went. Before I visited, I spoke with one of the plant professionals on the phone. I was pleased to find that when I arrived, they took my name and had that same person who I chatted to come speak with me.
We were able to continue our conversation and she had already set aside & tagged the plants I had been asking about. She was very knowledgable and incredibly kind. I appreciated the continuity. I will add, this nursery is very large compared to any others in Cville and can be somewhat overwhelming. I found the tree section somewhat difficult to navigate - but I am not a tree expert, by any means.
If you go, plan a good chunk of time, enjoy a walk through the different plant sections & don't hesitate to ask questions! I think that's how you will have the most rewarding experience.

Ivy Nursery is the BEST nursery in the Charlottesville area! After having bad experiences at Snow's Garden Center, I decided to visit Ivy Nursery to ask for real expert advice and shop for high-quality plants. Even though I do not have much of a "green thumb", the staff are helpful, attentive, kind, and patient. The staff take the time to teach new-to-gardening customers like me the best plants for an area, and how to take care of these plants so that they will be successful.
Thanks to the experts at Ivy Nursery, I now have a BEAUTIFUL front porch, decorated with stunning pots and showy flowers & foliage. They are my go-to nursery to call with any questions or advice, and the staff are eager and happy to help. Even if there is a question that they do not immediately know the best answer to, they will do their research, and call you back with the best answer- all on their own time, for free. THANK YOU, IVY NURSERY!

I'm clueless when it comes to plants! But I needed potted flowers for outside use and went to Ivy Nursery to see if I could find pretty ones. The selection was overwhelming and I was relieved when Jean asked me if I needed help. She was amazing! I explained what times of day the plants would be getting sun and she knew exactly which plants would work.
She also told me how often to water them. When I asked how much soil I would need, she offered to replant them in larger pots for a nominal fee which was such a relief, since I would probably not do it well myself! The plants are flourishing and I'm so appreciative of the expertise Jean gave me!

You would expect some level of service given the prices they charge, but they really are unwilling to make any concessions to modern technology. They won't allow you to place orders over the phone or by email (to save waiting hours for a bow to be made) and any time you stop in expect to spend at least an hour there. They can be quite snotty. That being said, they do have beautiful products.

I'd heard about Ivy Nursery for years but always assumed it was for an older crowd, as opposed to a grad student like myself. Boy was I wrong! While I see myself loving it even more once older, I love it now too. I walked in and was immediately greeted very warmly and asked if I needed help. The woman who helped me was wonderful - not pushy but very knowledgeable and helped me find the exact plants I was looking for.
After that, I couldn't help but walk around as everything there is SO beautiful! They have absolutely everything and more that I would ever want for my yard and even living room (it took every ounce of discipline I had not to walk out of there with multiple orchid arrangements). Not only that, the gift shop is full of lovely picture frames, vivd and charming coffee table books, and fun/sassy decorative pillows.
I truly felt like I'd walked into a little slice of paradise, and while I rarely post reviews online, I just really wanted to spread the word about this place. Wonderful people, beautiful everything, and they even had samples of little cookies for while I poked around. I can't wait to find an excuse to go back! And next time I need a hostess gift or anything at all for my house or yard, I can't think of a better place to go. Well done all around!
