Watkins Nurseries, Inc. was founded in 1876 by J. B. Watkins as a small fruit tree farm in Powhatan County, Virginia. Over the course of 140 years, and with the involvement of five generations of the Watkins family, it has grown to over 500 acres of land across the central Virginia area that is currently used in the production of field-grown, landscape-size plant material.
We are a wholesale and retail tree nursery, plant center, and landscape design firm established in 1876. While we do have several farms across the central Virginia area, our office is located in Midlothian, Virginia, just west of Richmond. Our company specializes in field-grown trees and shrubs that we produce on over 500 acres of farm land.
We offer customized residential & commercial landscape design services as well as delivery of our bulk materials! Our landscape and delivery departments offer expertise and quality service. We stopped by to rebuy our ornamental grass after wasting our money at a similar Nursery on Courthouse Road for dead grass. Wow what a difference and the girl who helped us and showed us around was fairly new but A++++ something you don't often get these days. Pictures show the difference in plant size and both the dead and Watkins plants were $10 each. Highly recommend coming here.

We had a great experience with picking out spring flowers, however, once we expressed interest in getting an estimate for a patio things changed. The owner was non-commital and didn't seem to want to work with us. Idk what he's used to, but we've built patios before and have the money to do so. It seemed like he thought his rough estimate was out of our range and I was offended. Our last patio cost more than his estimate : smh My husband and I are both professionals. We were disappointed in the response and will not go back there.

Watkins caters more to businesses rather than homeowners it seems. Last fall I called for an estimate to have a couple of trees delivered to my house and they did not call me back. So I called them again requesting the same information and they still did not call me back. I just bought a crepe myrtle from them today and found out that it has no warranty unless you have them install it.
That is not a competitive policy as far as tree and shrub sales go. All of the places I have bought trees and shrubs from have a one year warranty. But they do have a good selection and their pricing seems to be pretty good that's why they get three stars from me.

We stopped by Watkins Nursery in Chesterfield County today and purchased compose for our garden. They were practicing social distancing by providing window access to makes purchases.
