ANALYZE your site. Determine soil type (sand, silt, clay, muck), current vegetation, drainage, moisture, slope, amount of sunlight and what is growing adjacent/nearby the seeding area. Generally, tight, wet clay soil, dune sand or infertile subsoils are not suitable for wildflower seedings. It is recommended that seeding take place in spring (mid-May to mid-June), dormant seeding (mid-October thru November) or snow seeding.
Existing vegetation is eliminated leaving dead thatch or soil is smoothed on a new construction site. Herbicide application, tilling, or black plastic methods may be used in site preparation. With good 1st and 2nd growing season management you should be able to enjoy the blooms of your wildflower seeding.
Our Annual Wildflower Seed Mixes function as a cover crop, establishing quickly, stabilizing the soil and providing color the first growing season, while the slower growing native species establish. SHOWY Annual Non-Native Wildflower Mix contains taller and larger bloom wildflowers that thrive in full sun.
Due to a severe shortage in 2021 fescue availability is extremely low. As a result the EcoTurf Mix seeds used in this mix are coated with ProNitro TM, which includes limestone with polymer, micronutrients, kelp and beneficial mycorrhizae. This added coating assures stronger germination and faster establishment.
