I worked with Tim Banfield for a complete yard design after building a new home. Having moved from a home with an established yard, I asked that correct spacing for trees and shrubs at their maturity be prioritized in his recommendations. Tim assured me repeatedly that he always spaced plantings with the mature plant size in mind. However, within two to three years of completing our expensive yard, we realized that plants had outgrown the space and we needed to them completely.
This included 3 blue spruces he planted in a grouping in the front yard as well a number of shrubs that were planted too close the house. In addition, while his team was implementing his design, he angrily accused us of mishandling and being at fault for plants dying which he had delivered but had not planted that we were unaware of. His bill was nearly $40,000 (this did not include any hardscaping; just design, plants and labor).
More than the miss-spacing of plants, it was this lack of professionalism and rudeness that was the most upsetting. Even though I have put in new yards since then, I chose not to work with him again.
