Have several visits in the past for small and large irrigation projects with Gentle Rain. They are a long time Virginia Beach based company and they have largely gotten the work done professionally and completely. I recently had some work done and had a question about the invoice. We recently contacted Gentle Rain about having an irrigation system installed in our yard. They were very quick to respond and set up a time to meet with us and discuss our project. Ben took the time to walk us thru the job and explain to us what the process would entail. We decided to use this company and we would HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking to have an irrigation system installed utilize this company. I want to thank Gentle Rain for taking the time to come to my home and provide me an honest quote. The gentleman took the time to thoroughly walk me through the different options available for my situation. Rather than trying to take advantage of my lack of familiarity with water features, he gave me honest feedback based on his experience and even walked me though what I would need to do if I chose to do the project myself. We contacted gentle rain for a drainage issue in March 2017. They gave us a reasonable proposal and we scheduled the work for August 2017. We paid a deposit to ensure our spot. The work kept getting pushed back because of other, more complicated jobs, taking more time. We called weekly and were lucky to get a text back. Kept telling us to be "patient." Finally in November 2017, gentle rain cancelled our job because they couldn't get our work done.
So for a job that was scheduled 5 months in advance, they couldn't find time to fit us in. And then they strung us along for 3 months so we missed the planting window for this season. We will be lucky if we can schedule someone now for the spring. All the while they were telling us to be "patient." So unprofessional and unreliable. I have never done a review before but want to save anyone else some trouble. Stay away from gentle rain!

I am giving two stars because of the well-mannered office members and the owner. As we disagree he was still polite and was never rude. While I was deployed we had a technician come to our house to troubleshoot our irrigation system. All zones had low pressure, I told my wife that it was the pump and it most likely needed to be replaced. The technician came out and changed 12 nozzles in two zones.
Of course this did not correct the issue. We called the company to let them know the issue had not been corrected; they came back out and stated that it was probably the pump. They then charged me for the first visit to replace 12 nozzles, which was not the problem, and then charged me again to come back out and tell us what it was in the first place.
I called the office and the owner promptly called me back, he was polite, but stated that his technician had followed proper troubleshooting procedures. If all six zones are not working properly then it obviously is an issue with the source, not the zones. The owner did call me back, but he did not offer to reduce the amount of the bill, even though his technician fixed nothing, he did not offer an apology.
Sometimes people are wrong and sometimes technicians need training in there trade, I understand that, but as a business owner I felt that the bill should have been adjusted to properly reflect the results of two visits, which was still an irrigation system that did not operate properly, it actually operated exactly like it did before the technician arrived the first. I can't Believe I got charged for the second visit.

Chris took excellent care of my system. never worked better, and I never understood some of things it did until he corrected them. Oh and the best part. less than an hour and he had it working better than ever. Highly recommend them. Incidentally I called another sprinkler company at the same time as Gentle Rain, they never called me back or emailed me to follow up. And businesses wonder why they aren't growing. hello? I had this outfit do about 30K worth of work almost exactly 3 years ago. Not a pleasant experience. A major part of the job was regrading my back yard so that water run off didn't flow towards the house. For the last two years, and getting worse, there are two major wetspots, moss and all, against the house. I'm sure Bill, Dan and the guys will howl in protest that these wet spots probably had nothing to do with their work. As I recall, a big part of their sales pitch was that they would fix the problem permanently. Uh-huh.

While we have only used Gentle Rain's residential in-ground automatic lawn sprinkler services over the last five or so years, the company, operating since the 1960's, actually spends over half its time in the commercial market, including a great deal of work for the government. Installation of our small in-ground sprinkler system --- only 8 circuits, 28 spray heads --- was accomplished in only 3 days, and, while the yard definitely showed the work after the installation was completed, most of the grass was back to normal in a little over a month.
And the installation, and subsequent system operation over the last 4 years, has been flawless. The only service problem we've experienced during this time has been the replacement of the roof-mounted rain sensor, which was damaged by roofers when installing a new roof. The service tech was here and gone in 20 minutes, and everything's worked perfectly since. Very highly recommended for residential in-ground automatic lawn and shrub sprinkler systems.
And the installation, and subsequent system operation over the last 4 years, has been flawless. The only service problem we've experienced during this time has been the replacement of the roof-mounted rain sensor, which was damaged by roofers when installing a new roof.
