Island Environments

Don't be fooled by the reviews. The business has a new owner and they are very unprofessional, horrible to deal with and don't stand behind their work. They made many unapproved changes to our project including adding $4k in plants and billed us over $11k more than the contract. As a response, Dan (the owner) shared with me several other jobs of theirs that were over-billed much more than us so I shouldn't be upset (seems like this is their strategy).

I told him he has an issue with how he quotes jobs. They sold the wall stone we waited four months to get and we had to reorder it. When our new palm and 2 bushes started dying 2.5 months after they finished the project, Dan came to look at it and said it all was normal and there was nothing to worry about (even though the second palm looked perfectly green and completely different). 2 weeks later the tree was dead and we discovered the irrigation that Island Environments installed has a broken connection (not glued) in the back of our house (which he obviously did not check when he inspected the tree).

Now they are saying it is not covered by warranty and they are refusing to replace or take any responsibility for an installation mistake and a bad assessment of the situation by Dan when the tree and bushes were still salvageable. If I could give 0 stars I would. There are lots of great companies out there. Avoid the headache. We spent over $40k with them and have tons of issues and they now won't even respond about our dead palm or irrigation.

This is the first review I have ever written. but I feel compelled. There is sooo much more I could go on about. I have attached a picture of our new palm tree as well as a picture of the water pouring out of our new, poorly installed irrigation line that they won't even come check on.

I had a huge palm root crush both my main water and irrigation lines. They had the house water repaired the day I called and the irrigation within a week. They solved what could have been a nightmare situation into a solid and brief repair. Three other companies wouldn't touch the project due to its difficulty. Island Environmental took on the challenge and exceeded all my expectations!

I've got to tell you we had a great experience with Dan and his team at our property in Palmetto Dunes. They did a complete relandscape on the back yard, with a new path to the pool, plus new grass (a new type), plus distinctive edging and some tree work. Our property manager saw the work and was blown away. It looks GREAT! I gave Dan a tight timeline because of the amount of time we were here and he and the team delivered. I transferred to Hilton Head Island last year and after trying another company I had Island Environments out to see the yard and talk about weekly maintenance and we also talked about what we could do in the future. Jordan told me what the different plants were I had in my yard that I was not familiar with, showed some areas of the lawn that needed help, and I showed him plants that were out of control and plants I "was not fond of".

They have been great with weekly maintenance of my lawn and all of my bushes, they adjust my irrigation system as needed, have pruned all of my palms, re-mulched, and most recently pulled out many overgrown old perennials that added nothing to the curb appeal of my home, brought a selection of plants and placed them around the front and back for my approval.

I loved their selections and had them plant them. The difference in the curb appeal of my home makes me smile every time I look at it. In a new area it is hard to find new contractors, but I have found Dan and Island Environments and they are doing an excellent job.

The crew at Island Environments went above and beyond for me. They discovered a water problem at my Hilton Head home while I was in Michigan and contacted me immediately. This had nothing to do with their job, but it enabled me to avoid a huge problem. From the top down, this is a company that cares.

We have used Island Environments since we built our home in 2001. We had decided to search out a new landscaper about the time Island Environments came under new management. So glad we didn't change as there is a noticeable improvement in our weekly service and over all health of our plants. Keep up the good work IE!

Island Environments helped us through the entire walkway project. David helped with our planning stage and answered every question quickly by email. Leo was in charge of construction giving us ideas we hadn't thought about and making sure we approved of every aspect. All the workers were professional, considerate and exacting. We're very pleased with the outcome.

I recommend to family, friends & neighbors. I first called Island Environments because of the great reviews on Angie's List. From the first call to the first meeting to the first service to today they have been extremely professional and my experiences have been very positive (for a lack of a better word). My home in Hilton Head is a second home so I am not always there but when I do come down everything always looks great.

I talk to the crew when I come in town and sometimes run into the supervisor when he is on routine inspections; everyone has always been extremely nice, knowledgeable and helpful. I recently did some extra work which is the reason for this review, I normally don't write reviews, but my place looks incredible. Jason did a plan for me and over saw the install while I was at home.

When I pulled up to the house I could not believe how incredible the place looked(s). One of my favorite things is the lights they put in; they make the landscape and house glow after dark. I have had multiple homes on Hilton Head over the past 25 years as well as landscapers but Island Environments is the best landscape contractor I have ever experienced on the island or at home! My only regret is I did not start using Island Environments sooner!

Island Environments was recommended by a neighbor. We had them redo our whole yard; they installed landscaping, pavers, lighting and an insect misting system (I can't believe how well the insect misting system works, we have no bugs in our yard and can sit outside without getting eaten alive). Their staff was responsive, knowledgeable and their attention to detail was impressive.

They helped us come up with a finish outdoor area that transformed our home. We know spend a lot more time enjoying the outdoors, which is the reason we moved to Hilton Head. We would defiantly recommend them to our friend and neighbors.
